COUGAR CORNER HEADLINES EuroTrip Part 2: Rain in Versailles

CCS group experiences the amazing sites in France while learning to expect the unexpected.

CANORA - The Canora-Oregon 2024 Europe Trip traveled from London, England to Paris, France on March 30.

However, the trip to mainland Europe came with stressful situations. Travelers woke up at 2:30 a.m. local time so they could catch a bus to the train station in downtown London. Despite waking up early to get to the train station by 4 a.m., the bus that was supposed to pick up the group of travelers never came. The bus company canceled on the group without notifying the tour guide beforehand, forcing everyone to take Ubers or taxis to the train station. After the bus cancellation debacle, travelers hopped on the EuroStar bullet train, which took everyone under the English Channel.

Despite the issues getting to mainland France, the travelers took in the famous sites of the French capital. Tour guide Simon notified travelers that there is a lot of construction underway in Paris ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics in the summer. On March 30, travelers went to visit sacred Notre Dame Cathedral, which is still under intense repairs following the devastating fire on April 15, 2019. Near Notre Dame was where everyone was let go for lunch. Travelers got to roam the streets for about an hour. Some people had souvlaki, which is a famous European dish. Travelers also went to the Louvre, where everyone got to see the famous Mona Lisa on a very busy Saturday. In the evening, travelers went to a hotel near a city airport.

On Easter Sunday, the Europe Trip club met up with a local tour guide who led travelers to the most famous structure in Paris, the Eiffel Tower, which was very peaceful with not a lot of people there because of the holiday. After the Eiffel Tower, travelers went to the Arc De Triomphe for lunch.

After lunch, everyone road the bus to the Palace of Versailles where students and teachers were split into two separate groups. The inside of the palace was phenomenal, with many objects that haven’t been changed or altered for over 100 years. The outdoor garden was also spectacular, where everyone was allowed to roam the palace gardens with peaceful fountains and beautiful greenery.

Unfortunately, during the end of the stay at Versailles a massive thunderstorm pummeled the area, which was so intense that hail started to fall. The storm brought thunder and lightning, seemingly coming out of nowhere, and caught the group off-guard causing travelers to run to the coach bus to take cover from the rain pellets. After the storm was over, everyone got to take in the sites of Paris via a river boat ride on the Seine River, ending off an eventful day.

On April 1, travelers hopped on a coach ride to the border with Switzerland, but before the arrival in Zurich, travelers took in a very long bus ride that involved multiple stops at gas stations in Eastern France. Travelers stopped for lunch in the peaceful town of Beaune, which automatically became a favourite and memorable location because of the nice people and beautiful architecture.

While there were eventful situations on the way to France and during the stay, a lot of lasting memories were created for several travelers from both Canora and Oregon.
