CANORA - The final game of the week-long Hockey Day in Saskatchewan on Jan. 19 pitted the U18 Canora Cobras against the Whitewood Elks at the Canora Civic Centre, with Whitewood coming out on top, 4-2.
Cobras Coach Adam Vangen said he and his team enjoyed being part of Canora’s Hockey Day in Saskatchewan.
“It was a busy week with lots of things happening and we were happy to have the support of a great crowd.”
The Elks took period leads of 1-0 and 3-0, but the Cobras kept at it and found some success in the third period. Goals by Linden Roebuck of Canora and Jake Soltys of Sturgis narrowed the deficit to a single goal. However, that was the closest the Cobras would get, as the Elks scored a late insurance goal to make the final 4-2.
“We played a good game against Whitewood, in the end we came up short but the team worked hard.
“Our team is made up of a great group of kids that never quit. They work hard and stick together as a team. They have seen that hard work pays off and keep going right until the final horn.”
Vangen said the Cobras are enjoying a busy season.
“The season is going well, we have attended a couple tournaments in addition to league play.”
