CANORA - On May 16, members of the Canora branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and members of the local Ukrainian community, wearing their Ukrainian embroidered shirts, gathered at the Canora Ukrainian Heritage Museum to celebrate Vyshyvanka Day, marked in Ukraine and around the world on the third Thursday in May.

According to information provided by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, “The embroidered shirt (Vyshyvanka) holds deep significance as it symbolizes Ukrainian heritage, dignity and represents the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity, especially in the midst of ongoing war in the Ukraine. On Vyshyvanka Day, Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine around the world wear a Ukrainian embroidered shirt to show their support for the Ukrainian people and as a symbol of unity and solidarity.

“Vyshyvanka Day is a chance to honour the memory of the thousands of innocent people murdered by Russia’s genocidal war of aggression.”
