CANORA- The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 46 calls from June 22 to June 29, some of which included: two assaults, one 911 Act call, one assault with a weapon, two Child Welfare Act calls, three disturbing the peace, one drug trafficking, one Trespassing Act call, two uttering threats, three mischiefs, three thefts, one Mental Health Act call, eight traffic offenses, two traffic collisions, one failure to comply with probation, one criminal harassment, three traffic collisions, and nine other provincial calls.
Railway crossing incident
On June 22, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP attended a motor vehicle collision at the railway crossing south of Canora on Highway 9. Police learned a semi was travelling too fast to stop in time at the railway crossing and had to swerve to avoid a collision with another vehicle and a train. The semi struck another vehicle and then came to a stop in the ditch. There were no serious injuries. Police continue to investigate the collision.
Fill-and-run
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on June 22 to the Canora Co-op Gas Bar for a report of a gas-and-dash.
Expensive tastes
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint that a $200 bottle of liquor was stolen from the Canora Co-op Liquor Store in Canora on June 24. Police continue to investigate
No respect for locks
On June 26, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a break-and-enter to sheds on a property in Sturgis. The locks were cut off and items were stolen. The incident is under investigation.
No respect for fences
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on June 27 to a complaint of property damage in Sturgis. The complainant reported a vehicle had driven through their pasture fence and damaged trees. Unconscious on the street
The Canora/Sturgis received a complaint of an unresponsive female laying on the street in Canora on July 28. The female was woken and later transported to the Canora Hospital by EMS.
In trouble
On June 29, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called out to a report of a female in distress rolling around on the ground. Police attended and arrested the female for uttering threats. The female was remanded into custody and will appear in Yorkton Provincial Court.
Hit-and-run arrests
At 3:51 a.m. on June 29, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of an SUV ramming a car on Norway Road in Canora. Police were able to attend the scene immediately and located the suspect vehicle attempting to drive away. Police conducted a high risk vehicle stop, and a male and a female were arrested without incident. A one-year-old child was located in the vehicle unharmed along with two ounces of methamphetamine in the pocket of the male passenger. Police learned the collision was unprovoked and the result of a separate disturbance which was occurring on Norway Road. The female driver was charged with assault with a weapon, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, child endangerment, and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. The male passenger was charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. The male and female were remanded into custody and will appear in Yorkton Provincial Court.
Child support
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP arrested a male on June 29 for an outstanding warrant of committal issued under the Maintenance Enforcement Act. The male was sentenced to 30 days in jail for unpaid child support.
