KAMSACK - In the final two round robin draws, the top four teams were decided heading into the Duck Mountain Super League playoffs, according to a release from Glen Becenko.
The finals were held in Swan River on Dec. 15 with top team Swan Valley Chiropractic at seven win and no loses taking on fourth seed W.F. Schnieder and sons. Swan Valley Chiropractic showed why they were number one by defeating their opponent with ease, putting them in the final for the second year.
“In the other game we saw Swan Hills Properties with a 6 and 1 record take on Pioneer Hybrid at 4 and 3,” said Becenko. “Pioneer Hybrid was short two of their regular players, but the subs they brought in were in fine form and they defeated Swan Hills Properties, setting up a rematch of last year’s final.”
The final proved to be a crowd pleaser, according to Becenko.
“Pioneer Hybrid started out strong to build up a big lead but Swan Valley Chiropractic battled back like they did all year, counting three in the last end to send the game to an extra end.”
With the same result as last year, Pioneer Hybrid of Canora was able to score a single point and claim the title for the second year in a row.
The remaining for teams played on the B side for some fun and a little less cash than the top teams.
In the first game it was The Whistle Stop handing Cross-Town Motors yet another loss to end their season without a win. The other game saw NCC Farms take down Challoner Farms. Both teams had some struggles this season in putting up wins, as each squad had two and five won/loss records.
In the B final NCC Farms held on to get past The Whistle Stop.
“The Swan River Curling club put on a great event to celebrate the 40th year of the league,” said Becenko. “On hand were many fans and some past curlers along with original organizers of the League. Many thanks to all the workers and volunteers at all the clubs for the ice surfaces, the food and the refreshments. A huge thanks to all the team sponsors for the cash they donate for the teams to play for. The event in Swan River also had some extra sponsors donate cash, food and prizes the help celebrate the league’s success.
“A great season was had by all, See you on the ice,” concluded Becenko.
