CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 27 calls from March 21 to March 27, some of which included:
- one assault,
- one assault with a weapon,
- two 911 Act calls,
- one break and enter,
- one Firearms Act call,
- three Mental Health Act calls,
- four mischiefs,
- one other provincial call,
- one sextortion,
- one suspicious person,
- five traffic offenses,
- one uttering threats, and
- three prisoners.
Mother assaulted
On March 21, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault call. Police attended a residence in Canora and arrested a man for assaulting his mother. The man was charged with assault and released on conditions to have no contact with the victim.
Egging investigation
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on March 21 that a home on Coronation Drive in Canora was egged. A total of 11 youth were observed on camera to be involved, according to the caller.
It is a criminal act of mischief to egg a home. Eggs can cause damage to property and those who are responsible for causing the damage would have to pay for the damages.
Alcohol not helping
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in Canora on March 23. Police attended and arrested an intoxicated man and woman from the home for breaching the peace.
Eviction dispute
On March 23, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a 911 call involving a tenant/landlord dispute. Police investigated and learned the landlord was attempting to serve tenants in a Canora home for not paying rent. Police educated those involved in the dispute of the processes required to legally evict tenants from a home.
Facebook threat
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a sextortion on Facebook on March 24. A fake Facebook account targeted a man and threatened to release intimate images if the victim did not send money to a country in Africa. Police continue to investigate.
Gunshots heard
On March 25, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to Gorlitz for a report that gunshots were heard at 2 a.m. Police patrolled the area and could not locate the origin of the gunshots or those involved.
Not really missing
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received call on March 25 about a missing woman who had left her home in Canora at 3 a.m. and could not be located. Police investigated and determined the woman was safe and was not missing.
