Canora RCMP: Mutual assault leads to arrest of man and woman

On April 18, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Canora to investigate an assault. Police attended the home and learned that a man and a woman had assaulted each other.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP dealt with a intoxicated man with a knife, a child that handcuffed themselves, and public intoxication.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 48 calls from April 17 to April 24, some of which included:

  • five 911 Act calls,
  • three assaults,
  • two assaults with a weapon,
  • three breaches of peace,
  • one break and enter,
  • one bylaw offence,
  • two disturbing the peace,
  • two failures to comply with release conditions,
  • one fraud, three mischiefs,
  • one possession of a dangerous weapon,
  • one sextortion,
  • one theft of a motor vehicle,
  • one theft under $5,000,
  • one traffic collision,
  • 14 traffic offences,
  • one uttering threats,
  • four wellbeing checks, and
  • four prisoners.

Residential double assault

On April 18, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Canora to investigate an assault. Police attended the home and learned that a man and a woman had assaulted each other. Both the man and woman were arrested for assault and remanded into custody.

Knife mischief

The Canora RCMP were dispatched on April 18 to a disturbance call in Canora. A man was reported to be yelling in an alleyway.

Police went to the alleyway and observed an intoxicated man with a knife in his hand. Police conducted a high-risk arrest on the man and directed him to put down the knife. The man responded by laying down and pretending to sleep with the knife still in his possession. Police were eventually able to remove the knife from the man's hand and he was arrested without incident.

A 50-year-old man from Canora has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000, and causing a disturbance.

Child handcuff trouble

The Canora RCMP were dispatched to an assistance call in the RM of Preeceville on April 20. The caller reported their child had handcuffed themselves to their right ankle and there was no key to get the handcuffs off. Police assisted and unlocked the handcuffs.

Former resident faces curfew charge

On April 20, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a suspicious persons call in Canora.  The caller reported seeing two people standing outside a home that was vacant. Police attended the home and located a man and woman. The man, a former resident of the home, was arrested and charged for failing to comply with his curfew conditions. 

Public intoxication leads to warning

The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance involving two men and a woman in Canora on April 23. The caller reported the three individuals were walking down the street intoxicated, yelling, carrying a boom box, and had sticks and a hatchet in their possession. Police located the three persons at a nearby residence whittling the wood. All three individuals were warned about public intoxication.
