CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 121 calls from July 18 to Aug. 8, some of which included:
- two 911 Act calls,
- three animal calls,
- two assaults,
- four breach of peace calls,
- four bylaw offences,
- one Child Welfare Act calls,
- one Coroners Act call,
- three criminal harassments,
- two disturbing the peace,
- three failing to comply with conditions,
- three false alarms,
- one Fire Prevention Act call,
- one fraud, two lost and found,
- seven Mental Health Act calls,
- 13 mischiefs,
- one impaired operation of a motor vehicle,
- two other provincial calls,
- one other federal call,
- five suspicious persons,
- two taking motor vehicle without consent,
- three thefts, one theft of vehicle,
- two traffic offenses,
- two traffic collisions,
- six uttering threats,
- five wellbeing checks, and
- four prisoners.
Rude gesture
On July 24, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call from a man in Canora reporting criminal harassment. The man told police another man had given him the middle finger and drove away in a car.
Child left in bathroom
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called on July 26 to assist with a found child. The child had snuck away from the family vehicle to go to the bathroom and was left behind. The child’s parents returned a short time later when they noticed their son was missing.
Ring and run
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of ding-dong ditch in Canora on July 28. The prank involved multiple youths who were seen running away after ringing the doorbell of a home.
Bitcoin fraud
On Aug. 1, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a fraud after learning money was deposited into a Bitcoin machine. The person had received a fraudulent call from an unknown man identifying himself as a lawyer who was asking for money for the release of a family member in jail.
Tire theft
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated the theft of four tires on Aug. 1 from a business in Canora. Police continue to investigate.
Rock finds target
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report of mischief in Preeceville on Aug. 3. A large rock was thrown through the back window of vehicle parked on the street in Preeceville.
No emergency
On Aug. 4, a resident of Canora called 911 asking for assistance with their television. Police spoke to the caller and determined there was no emergency.
Time to get eyes checked?
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on Aug. 5 of a possible break and enter in Canora. The caller reported seeing a broken window on a neighboring home. Police investigated and determined there was no broken window and the home was secure.
Heavy price to pay for a date
Canora RCMP members were patrolling in Canora when a man and woman were observed sitting in a parked vehicle in an alley on Aug. 5. The man, who was known to police, was arrested for breaching his no contact order with the woman. The man was charged with two counts of failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking and was remanded into custody.
Dog poop mischief
On Aug. 6, the Saskatchewan RCMP call back unit investigated a report of bags of dog poop being thrown on the roof of a business in Preeceville. Throwing bags of dog poop onto someone else’s property is a criminal offence of mischief. Police continue to investigate.
