BARON, Russell

BARON - Russell Baron passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on June 26, 2015, at the age of 76 years.

Russell was born in Canora, SK on September 9, 1938 to William and Katie (Babchishin) Baron. As a young boy, he grew up on a farm near Amsterdam with his younger sister, Zonnia, and attended Crooked Hill Creek School. Later, he attended St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton and discovered a hidden passion for music, which lasted 45 years.

Music and farming were always integral to his existence, as both were perceived as a hobby, a way of life, and a means to bring joy to others. Along with this, hockey had always brought much happiness to Russell, especially when he watched his dream team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, play. Russell worked and participated in various areas of public work, boards, and committees over the years.

Some of these include the Assiniboine Valley Basin Committee, the Good Spirit Water Shed, Canora Parish Council, 15 years at the Buchanan Conservation and Development Board, and over
30 years as a part of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee.

The last 7 years of Russell’s life consisted of many trips to the doctor and countless visits to the hospital. He had always been sure to mention the kind and compassionate nurses, doctors, and friends that he had met along the way. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Russell is predeceased by his father, William Baron, and his brother-in-law, Wes Gore.

He is survived by his wife, Verna; his mother, Katie; his sister, Zonnia Gore; his sons: Darrell (Mary) Baron and their son, Darrell, and Kevin (Sandra) Baron and their sons, Tate and Alden; his daughters: Cheryl (Karren) Statchuk and their sons: Orry, Traven, and Kole and Marcy (Maynard) Ostafichuk and their daughters: Amy, Arianna, and Trinity; as well as many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
