The poor weather the last couple of weeks has brought harvest to a standstill and raised questions about whether the 2016 crop will all be combined this year.聽 The Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation wants to remind producers they are covered for crop damage as a result of the weather conditions and they can receive an extension of insurance if they cannot harvest their crop by Nov. 15.
鈥淭he recent snow and rain means resuming harvest is going to be a challenge,鈥� said Shawn Jaques, SCIC President and CEO. 鈥淚f producers are concerned about not getting their crop harvested, they should contact their local Crop Insurance office and discuss their options.鈥�
Nov. 15 is the deadline for producers to file their production information, register claims and request an extension of insurance.聽 An extension ensures the producer is covered for additional losses that occur to their crop over the winter. In the spring, when the producer completes harvesting their crop SCIC will provide compensation for yield or quality downgrading which may have occurred.
If weather conditions improve and harvest can resume, producers are still covered for any crop losses that occur as a result of the wind, rain and snow. Crop Insurance customers can receive compensation for both yield loss and quality loss. If producers get their crop harvested but are experiencing a downgrading of the crop they should contact their local Crop Insurance office to report their production information and register a claim..
